June is Tahoe Bike Month!

The Bike Coalition is branding June as Tahoe Bike Month in an effort to bring together existing events and/or developing new events as a way to build a critical mass of activities throughout the month of June that will enable us to create a marketing platform to reach beyond the region and promote Bike Lake Tahoe as a cycling destination.

Tahoe Bike Challenge 2 Work, School and Play
Formerly called Bike to Work Week, this expanded two week version is planned to increase the public’s awareness about cycling’s value to the community and encourage more of you to ride in lieu of taking the car.  Take and Give a Challenge to your family, friends and colleagues to see who can tally the most days, most miles, the greatest reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and having the most fun doing it.  Go online and register at www.TahoeBike.org or learn how to become a sponsor.

Tahoe Bike Day Parade & Festval
Also new this year is establishing the first Saturday in June as Tahoe Bike Day.  To celebrate this day we are producing a parade and festival.  That’s right – A PARADE!  Plan on coming out and joining with family and friends to ride 2.2 miles in the first official Tahoe Bike Day Parade with a police escort up Hwy 50 to Pioneer Trail and then down Ski Run Blvd. to Ski Run Marina where the festival is being held.

The parade follows the ribbon cutting ceremony by City Officials at 12 noon.  We encourage you to dress up your bike and your body and help make this first bicycle parade fun, safe, and memorable.  For details about being a sponsor, exhibitor or volunteer visit www.TahoeBike.org for details.

Volunteers Needed!
Now, more than ever we ask for your assistance in helping us build our capacity to produce these new events and future programs.  We can use assistance with the Parade & Festival on Saturday, and then on Sunday we host the Spooner Summit Rest Stop during the America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride.

Contact Ty at biketahoe@aol.com with your interest to help out.  We greatly appreciate it.

South Shore
City Installs First Bike Racks!
The City of South Lake Tahoe has received 25 bike racks that they had manufactured to their specifications.  The first one was installed at the City Administration offices at the Airport.  Additional racks will be installed at City properties where it is determined to be of high use.  According to John Greenhut, Director, Public Works, “some of the racks will be placed at City facilities and the remainder of the inventory will be donated to the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition for installation where optimum bicycle use is occurring and the greatest need for secure parking is evident.”

This is another excellent example of the collaboration between the City and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, and the City’s continued commitment to improve the bicycle-friendliness of our community.  Many thanks to out to members of the City Council, and the staff and me pictured here:  John Greenhut, Dir. PW, Christine Vuletich, Dir. Finance, Ty Polastri, Pres. LTBC, and David Jenkins, City Mgr. Not pictured here and a key player is Stan Hill, City Bike Coordinator.  Thank you all for keeping the focus and commitment to seeing this project through.  Our community will be a better place as a result of their actions.

Bike Coalition Recieves Federal Tax Exemption
The Coalition has received its Federal tax exemption status as a 501 c 3 public charity.  This is great news because it opens the door for the Coalition to directly seek and receive a wide variety of grants that previously had to go through another nonprofit agency that served as its go between and paid an administrative fee to manage those funds.

Now, direct donations and membership fees are tax deductible because the Coalition is a public benefit charity and nonprofit corporation.

Dear Tahoe Bike Buddies:

You can see by the news mentioned above that we are building our organizational capacity and developing new activities and events.  These represent a new and exciting phase in our growth and in our ability to advance our mission and collaborate with others.

As is customary for many of us during this time of the year, we are ramping up our activities to implement last year’s plans and building new plans for the future.

We are hopeful you are planning to ride, and build your teams, for the Tahoe Bike Challenge and will help us launch the first Tahoe Bike Day Parade & Festival.  Many of us believe the cycling parade has a lot of potential to bring together our community of family and friends and grow each year into a celebratory event of fun, creativity, health and friendship.

Its time to bring the bike out of the garage, inflate its tires, lube the moving parts, polish it up, and get ready to proudly ride through town knowing that you are helping to make it a better place to live and ride.

Keepin it rollin,

NLTRA Community Workshop – Infrastructure & Transportation Integrated Work Plan

March 2, 2010

North Lake Tahoe Resort Association

COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE 2010-2015 INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORTATION INTEGRATED WORK PLAN MONDAY, MARCH 8, 2010 – Anytime between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tahoe City Public Utility District – 555 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City

Bike Trails, Shuttle Systems, Traffic Calming, Interpretive Centers, Bus Shelters, Museum Exhibits, Mile Markers, Wayfinding Signage, Airport Express, and more. Each year the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association (NLTRA) in partnership with Placer County completes an annual update of the Integrated Infrastructure and Transportation Work Plan and Long Range Funding Plan. The success of this process requires participation from community members, organizations, special districts, and governmental entities.

The Integrated Work Plan is an “action plan” that summarizes the status of the infrastructure and transportation projects throughout North Lake Tahoe that are ongoing and those projected for the 2010-2015 time period. The NLTRA funding portion for these projects comes from the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) collected by Placer County from visitors staying at North Lake Tahoe. None of the TOT is paid by local residents. It is recognized that in 2012 or before, the 2% North Lake Tahoe portion of the Placer County TOT must be considered for renewal by local voters.

The Work Plan establishes the highest priorities, provides project descriptions, estimates funding requirements, identifies project and funding partners, and suggests time frames for completion. For the Integrated Work Plan and Long Range Funding Plan to remain useful tools, we must review them on a regular basis and update as needed. This process is fundamental to the NLTRA’s mission and commitment to implement projects consistent with the North Lake Tahoe Tourism and Community Investment Master Plan.

We need your help in reviewing the ongoing Work Plan and for making suggestions for new infrastructure and transportation projects that should be considered. Please drop by the informal workshop on Monday, March 8th, become familiar with the projects in which the NLTRA has sponsored and participated, and contribute your ideas for new opportunities we can pursue toward accomplishing the goals of the 2004 Master Plan. For more info, call Ron Treabess at the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, (530) 581-8735.

January 26, 2010

Accelar announced today the launch of its All-inclusive 3-day/2-night Reno Tahoe Ski Packages with two weekly departures from San Francisco Bay Area – one from North Bay and one from South Bay. The company also announced the schedule and pick-up locations for these departures with the first departure scheduled on February 5th, 2010 followed by departures each subsequent Friday through the end of March, 2010.

Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2010 — Accelar announced today the launch of its all-inclusive 3-day/2-night Reno Tahoe ski packages with two weekly departures from San Francisco Bay Area – one from North Bay and one from South Bay. The company also announced the schedule and pick-up locations for these departures with the first departure scheduled on February 5th, 2010 followed by departures each subsequent Friday through the end of March, 2010.

The company also announced today the launch of its ski package booking portal – www.RenoTahoeSkiTrips.com – which enables consumers to build and book their customized ski packages. The company also announced agreements with leading ski resorts for lift tickets and leading hotels, casinos, and resorts for lodging options included in these ski packages that consumers can book online. Please see accompanying press release for additional details.

The ski trips portal – www.RenoTahoeSkiTrips.com – is the latest in the lineup of sports, events, and destination portals launched by the company. The portal promotes Reno Tahoe as a destination for skiers and snowboarders and enabling them to build and book their own customized ski packages, including lift tickets, lodging and transportation to / from San Francisco Bay Area to the leading ski resorts in Reno Tahoe.

The company also announced agreements with seven leading ski resorts:

  • Diamond Peak Ski Resort, Incline Village, NV
  • Heavenly, South Lake Tahoe, CA
  • Kirkwood Ski Resort, Kirkwood, CA
  • Northstar-at-Tahoe Ski Resort, Truckee, CA
  • Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort, Twin Bridges, CA
  • Squaw Valley USA, Truckee, CA
  • Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, Norden, CA

These ski resorts offer a variety of skiing and snowboarding experience – advanced, leisure, beginner – based on the skiing experience sought by consumers. The ski resorts offer consumers diverse skiing options on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore – Diamond Peak, Northstar and Sugar Bowl – as well as South Shore – Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra-Tahoe. The company also announced agreements with several hotels, casinos, and resorts:

  • Cal-Neva Resort, Crystal Bay, Nevada
  • Hampton Inn & Suites, Hilton Property, Truckee, CA
  • Harrah’s, Reno, NV
  • Harvey’s, South Lake Tahoe, CA
  • John Ascuaga’s Nugget, Reno, NV
  • Northstar Village, Truckee, CA
  • Resort at Squaw Creek, Squaw Valley, CA
  • Silver Legacy, Reno, NV

Included in each of the packages is round-trip transportation from eight locations all across San Francisco Bay Area – Concord, Daly City (San Francisco), Emeryville, Fremont, Mountain View, San Jose, Stockton, Vacaville – to the ski resorts and lodging chosen by the consumer. “We are excited about the opportunity to serve the 3+ million skiers and snowboarders who visit Reno Tahoe each year with a broad set of ski resorts, lodging and transportation options we offer through our portal,” said Accelar President and CEO, Kumar Shah. “Unlike other websites and portals promoting Reno Tahoe skiing, our portal offers consumers the ability to build and personalize their own all-inclusive ski packages and self-serve their needs for lift tickets, lodging and transportation booking – all through one portal.”

“We are delighted with Accelar’s all-inclusive ski and snowboarding packages promoting Reno Tahoe as the destination for San Francisco Bay Area skiers and snowboarders,” said Jan Colyer, Executive Director with the Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association. “With more than seventeen ski resorts in the Reno Tahoe region, our region offers the broadest array of skiing options and most diverse terrains compared to any other ski & snowboarding destination in the world. With their all-inclusive packages, including transportation, Accelar has made the Reno Tahoe region a lot more accessible to the San Francisco Bay Area.”

“With the multitude and diversity of lodging options – hotels, casinos, and resorts – Reno has a lot to offer skiers and snowboarders,” said Mark Tulman, Member Representative from the Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce. “Accelar offers a unique way for visitors to our area to personalize and customize their ski packages so they can explore all those options and build a package that will make their Reno Tahoe Experience memorable.”

Avoid Traffic Delays on I-80 During Street Vibrations 9/23/09 – 9/27/09

September 24, 2009

CALTRANS TRAFFIC ALERT:

Today’ Date: September 23, 2009

__________________________________________________________

Travel Alternatives to Avoid Delays during the Reno Street Vibrations Weekend:

Truckee – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is asking motorists to consider alternate routes and avoid peak travel times when traveling on Interstate 80 (I-80) over the Reno Street Vibrations weekend.

Major delays are expected on I-80 due to lane restrictions and narrowed lanes between Truckee and the Nevada State Line during the Reno Street Vibrations weekend. Delays in excess of 90 minutes can be expected.

To help lessen the delays, Caltrans recommends avoiding traveling between 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Motorists are encouraged to travel early to their destination and extend their stay, if possible, to avoid delays.

To minimize delays, Caltrans recommends that motorists consider the following alternate routes to Reno:

• U.S. Highway 50 east to Highway 395 north

• Highway 70 north to Highway 395 south

• I-80 east to Highway 267 south, drive past Tahoe’s north shore to Highway 431 (Mt. Rose Highway)

Due to ongoing construction, only three of the four traffic lanes are available and lanes widths have been narrowed to 11 feet. The lane availability this week is as follows:

10 a.m. Thursday, September 24 through 6 a.m. Sunday, September 27:

Westbound – 1 lane

Eastbound – 2 lanes

6 a.m. Sunday, September 27 through 10 p.m. Monday, September 28:

Westbound – 2 lanes

Eastbound – 1 lane
