S.R. 28 to Close for Three Weeks
State Route 28 from U.S. 50 to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe will be closed to traffic four days a week for three weeks beginning May 3 through May 22, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. During the three week closure, the road will be closed for repaving to all vehicles, except emergency, beginning each Sunday at 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. each Friday. The road will be open with no delays on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Keeping S.R. 28 closed from U.S. 50 to Sand Harbor for three weeks will allow NDOT to complete resurfacing of the roadway from U.S. 50 to East Lakeshore Boulevard in eight weeks as opposed to more than 16 weeks by closing one lane and using a pilot car. Motorists would also be subjected to delays of up to an hour if only one lane were kept open.
After May 22nd, traffic will be reduced to one lane with a pilot car from Sand Harbor to East Lakeshore Boulevard until July 2. Motorists can expect half-hour delays. There will be no delays to traffic Friday through Sunday.
The estimated $7.5 million project involves resurfacing S.R. 28 from U.S. 50 to Lakeshore Boulevard and is expected to be completed by July 2.
