Alaska Airlines knows the way to San Jose and they will begin

flying two flights per day between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and the

Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport beginning June 4.

Flights will be timed to meet all of Alaska’s Hawaii flights as well as having an

early morning Reno departure to benefit business travelers. The new service

offers the fastest and most convenient route from Reno to Kona, Hawaii.

Travelers can literally depart Reno at 6 a.m. and land in Kona at 10 a.m.

without changing airlines.

The new San Jose service also provides outstanding connections to the

entire Alaska network each day, including flights to:

Flights are available for booking today. The new flights begin with a 6 a.m.

departure from Reno and 7:08 a.m. arrival in San Jose. There is an 11:55

a.m. departure from San Jose with a 1 p.m. Reno arrival and a 2:15 p.m.

Reno departure that lands in San Jose at 3:23 p.m. The final flight each day

will be a 10:20 p.m. departure from San Jose with an 11:25 p.m. arrival in

Reno.

To celebrate Alaska’s new service, the carrier is offering $69* fares on flights

between San Jose and Reno. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 25 and can

be used for travel from June 5 through July 18, 2012. Visit

SnowFest! Fundraiser Party

As a prelude to the annual celebration, be sure to come out and support the Snowfest! Fundraiser Party in January!  This event gets everyone charged for SnowFest!, while donating proceeds to this non-profit organization.  Proceeds taken at the door ensure your entry to the event, taco bar and complimentary margarita!  A raffle and live music are offered as well.  Attendees are encouraged to wear their traditional SnowFest beads and feather boas to kick-off the event season in SnowFest spirit!

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers in your community for its Road to Recovery program. Volunteers are needed who can give a few hours a month, between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., to pick up patients from their homes and drive them to and from their cancer treatments. A vehicle in good working condition, valid driver’s license, safe driving record, current auto insurance and a desire to help local cancer patients are all that is required to apply. Training is provided and required in order to be a volunteer driver for The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program.

“Road to Recovery volunteers arrange their own schedules, with some volunteering as little as one afternoon a month and others driving people as often as twice a week,” said Cindy Bahl, Community Mission Director with the American Cancer Society. “If you have a car and some spare time, you can help someone keep a very important appointment.  Through the simple gift of a lift in your car, you can help carry patient’s one step further on the road to recovery”

We aim to have our drivers in place to serve our community by the end of the year and to have a strong program in place when the new Tahoe Forest Cancer Center opens next Summer.

This summer’s North Tahoe Transit programs will run daily from June 30^th to September 5^th, Labor Day. 

Operations include: 
·        TART bus service will be one-half hour service daily on Hwy 28, 6 am to 6:45 pm – new bike racks on the buses now 

·        FREE!  Northstar Night Rider will operate from 6 pm until 11:00 pm from the Village to Kings Beach to Stateline! 

·        FREE!  Nighttime Trolley with hourly service between Squaw Valley and the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village running from 7 pm to midnight 

·        NEW & FREE! West Shore Night Rider will operate from 6:30 pm until 11:30 pm – Tahoe City – Granlibakken – Tahoma! 

·        TART service daily between Northstar and Crystal Bay; connecting to all other TART buses 

·        The Emerald Bay Connection (TART Connects to BlueGo in Tahoma) started running week-ends June 3^rd and will begin daily service July 1^st through September 5^th – then week-ends until October 2^nd

CALTRANS to detour traffic off U.S. HIGHWAY 50 for two  approx. 2 weeks starting  May 11 ~ Temporary Detour Needed to Replace Rock Wall at Echo Summit  El Dorado County

– Caltrans today announced it will temporarily close U.S. Highway 50 at Echo Summit for approximately two weeks, depending on weather, beginning May 11. 

The closure is part of the first stage of a safety enhancement project that will remove damaged rock walls and replace them with a barrier that meets current safety standards. The project is funded in part ($1.9 million) by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). “This project is a great example of how Caltrans is putting the Recovery Act to good use, providing jobs and at the same time making  U.S. Highway 50 safer for the public,” said Caltrans Director Cindy McKim.There will be one-way controlled traffic on May 9 and 10, and Mondays through noon on Fridays for up to six weeks after U.S. Highway 50 is reopened.

The highway will be open with no restrictions on Memorial Day weekend.Alternate routes around the closure take travelers through the scenic gold country of El Dorado and Amador counties. Motorists should allow approximately one hour extra travel time during the two week full closure to reach South Lake Tahoe. The alternate routes available from U.S. Highway 50 are: ·         

From Sacramento: Exit at Power Inn Road and take State Route 16 east to State Route 49 south, at State Route 88 in Jackson, turn left (east). Take that to State Route 89 and turn left again (north), and follow it back to U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe. ·          From Placerville: Exit at Missouri Flat Road and take State Route 49 south. Follow it to State Route 88 in Jackson and turn left (east), At State Route 89 turn left (north) and follow it back to U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe. Motorists coming through the Stockton area can exit State Route 99 as usual at State Route 88 east, continuing onto State Route 88/49. In Jackson, turn left to continue on State Route 88 east. At State Route 89 turn left (north) and follow it to U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe. Caltrans will place electronic message signs at key positions on all of these highways to direct travelers. During the temporary full closure, U.S. Highway 50 will be open for visitors to Placerville and other locations as far east as Sierra at Tahoe Road near Echo Summit. 

“The alternate route through El Dorado and Amador Counties is a good way to go any time there are closures or substantial delays on U.S. Highway 50 due to weather, collisions or construction,” said Caltrans District 3 Director Jody Jones.

Caltrans has a website (www.Way2Tahoe.com) featuring a map, up-to-date information about the project, information about the alternate routes and sites to visit along the way, live traffic cameras, and answers to frequently asked questions. There is also an e-mail alert feature, allowing the public to sign up for project updates. Website visitors can also track the project’s progress via Twitter (@Way2Tahoe) and on Facebook.California has obligated nearly $2.6 billion in Recovery Act funding to nearly 1,000 highway, local street, and job training transportation projects statewide. Northstar at Tahoe will provide FREE service for Tahoe Vista, Kings Beach, Crystal Bay and Incline Village to Northstar. 

 The Town of Truckee will provide FREE service to Donner Summit from Henness Flat, Truckee Train Depot, Donner Lake to Donner Ski Ranch, Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs and Boreal. 

FREE Night Rider shuttles will also begin December 11^th to serve Northstar, Westshore, Squaw Valley, Tahoe City, Carnelian Bay, Tahoe Vista, Kings Beach, and Crystal Bay.

Other FREE Ski shuttles include Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Homewood, and Diamond Peak! 

The North Lake Tahoe Express Airport Shuttle has increased transfers from Reno for the Winter Season, along with great rates!

[Tahoe City]¾          The Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association Board of Directors is accepting letters of interest to fill a vacancy for the Kings Beach-Tahoe Vista Board Seat.  Applicants must be residents of the Kings Beach-Tahoe Vista or represent a business located in the area.

Preferred Qualifications include current employment or involvement in the transportation field, knowledge of regional and local transportation issues and commitment to the TNT/TMA’s goal of improving air and water quality and economic stability through development of transportation resources.

Board Members are required to attend monthly Board of Directors meetings, held the first Thursday of each month, typically at Granlibakken Resort and Conference Center in Tahoe City, 8:00 a.m., and they are encouraged to become involved in transportation-related issues.

Founded in 1990, the TNT-TMA is a public-private non-profit organization dedicated to developing innovative transportation and air quality solutions in the North Lake Tahoe-Truckee Resort Triangle. Its Board of Directors consists of business and citizen representatives from North Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Incline Village-Crystal Bay, and government representatives from counties and regional transportation planning agencies with responsibilities in the North Lake Tahoe Truckee “Resort Triangle.”

Travelers wishing to get to South Shore or Emerald Bay can do so by traveling on TART to Tahoma and transferring to the Blue-Go Nifty Fifty Trolley since the Blue Go Trolley now comes to Tahoma for the first year! 

Our very most popular Night Trolley service is back to serve our visitors, locals and employees starting at 7:00 pm until Midnight.  This has always been a favorite with the highest ridership numbers.  The nighttime trolley runs from Squaw Valley to Incline Village.  Granlibakken service is ON-Call.  There will be extra service on the nights of July 3^rd and July 4^th for fireworks in Kings Beach, Squaw Valley and Tahoe City. AND……the Northstar is running the Summer Night Rider through Sept 6^th!

The Tahoe Summer Transit Program serves a dual purpose– to help reduce traffic congestion during the peak summer season, and to give locals and visitors a fun and convenient reason to get out of their cars.  Traffic isn’t good for the environment and it’s not good for business. The Night Tahoe Trolley has proven to be a great way to attain several goals within the Summer Transit Program.  WE hope everyone will just try transit once & they will surely start thinking of ways to use transit that works for them!  We are especially excited about the new connection to South Lake Tahoe and hope people will travel on the shuttle to avoid so much traffic congestion on the West Shore.

The Tahoe Trolley conveniently stops at beaches, playgrounds, museums, shopping, hiking and bike trails, golf courses, special events, water sports locations and other destinations.  The Tahoe Trolleys, TART buses, Truckee buses, Northstar buses and the BlueGo Trolleys are equipped with bicycle racks, making it a convenient way to access the region’s various trailheads. With stops at casinos, clubs and restaurants, it’s also a great alternative to driving while enjoying North Lake Tahoe’s famed dining and gaming nightlife.

Using the Tahoe’s Summer Transit Program is a great way to chip in to protect Lake Tahoe’s fragile alpine environment. Increased public transit use also decreases traffic congestion, resulting in improved air and water quality. According to the California Air Resources Board, one car releases 15 grams of carbon monoxide into the air every 15 minutes.

Anything we can do to reduce traffic congestion aids to further protection of Lake Tahoe. Public transit is high on our list of ways to promote better air quality and keep Tahoe blue. We urge the Lake Tahoe community and its visitors to support this cause by traveling on the Tahoe Trolley rather than getting behind the wheel.  Just get on the Bus!

The Tahoe Trolley is operated by Placer County’s TART bus system and the Northstar Free Shuttle is operated by Northstar Resort(tm) and both are funded by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and local business sponsorships.  The Southshore/Emerald Bay Connection is funded by the US Forest Service.
